... to get on Birth Control??? Technically, when you're sexually active, of course. But some girls are starting at 13?!! Isn't that just way too young?

If a 13 year old is having sex already, the issue is more which is better...putting her on birth control and explaining the importance of safe sex, or her being pregnant at 13 years old.
The other issue is kicking her ass for having sex so early.

I truly think that whenever she starts having sex is when birth control becomes necessary. 9 times out of 10, once they start they aren't going to just stop having sex. I think it's dumb to put an arbitrary number on what age is appropriate. I think it's a lot of people with this "She's having sex already, but is too young for birth control" attitude that contributes to these teenage girls having babies at such a young age. They are not going to stop having sex unless you chain them to their bed, so you may as well teach them about safe sex and birth control!
I think even more importantly is teaching young girls to respect themselves and their futures enough to wait to have sex.

i really dont think that it matters what age someone starts taking birthcontrol everyday i meet gurls having sex already and they keep getting younger and younger. no gurl ever knows exactly when shes going to start having sex.its better to be prepared before it happens.in this case its not better late then never its better early before its to late. alot of gurls have sex before there ready.just because you talk to you chrildren about safe sex dosen't mean there going to act on it. yes talking to your daughter about respecting her self is important no matter how young or old she is she going to carry her self in her own way ,including making the decision to have sex , or be on birthcontroll you can hold you childs hand there whole life. yes mabey 13 is a young age to start but at least shell be preparedbefore it happens.

I guess I cant say much my paranoid mom took me down for birth control when i was 11... just to be safe.... course it was just to make sure that if one day i chose to have sex... that no baby would come out of it... (i waited till I was 17 and when i was 18 here popped out a lil girl) so there ya go thatll teach ya mom

I went on birth control late in life.. but that was because I was not sexually active until my mid-twenties.. but 13? Damn! I don't know about the risk of putting those extra hormones in your body at that age.. I'd say, use another type of birth control and wait a little bit to start using the pill.

Well since you brought it back up... I have been having sex since I was 14. And yeah I know I'm a guy, but I have had a condom break before. Thats some scary shit. Oh yeah, and about the whole " I can't believe they are having sex at 13!" thing... Nature is telling us to have sex. Who they hell are we to defy Nature! We are made to start haveing sex at a young age.

13 is way too young to have sex! i've heard worse, though. when i was growing up, all kinds of girls were on birth control when they were teenagers. some were because of irregular periods and such but a lot were sexually active. whenever a girl becomes sexually active she should start using some kind of birth control along w/ condoms regardless of age. proper education and and a healthy parent/child relationship helps immensly. whatever you do, don't lie to kids about everything like mine did. that sucked!

Yeah, my dad told me that I could get pregnant by a guy just rubbing on me and somehow the sperm would get inside of me... I think I had nightmares about that for years and I believed him!

Lol nice. But here's my question. Why do we go through puberty? So we can reproduce. Plain and simple. Nature wants us to have sex when we are that young because humans only used to live til they were like 40. Just because we live longer doesn't mean that we can always surpress those urges when we are younger.

On average chemical birth control under 16 endangers the health of the girl. The best thing is to give them the sex talk as soon as you, as a parent can, determine that they will understand it...worked for me on my two daughters.

Thats the best arguement I have heard yet. And I agree with it actually. Girls shouldn't take birth control if its bad for their health. And most girls now a days are waiting at least until high school. And thats good. My biggest point is that nature intended us to have sex at about 13. If you don't thats fine. But those people that do, we shouldn't criticize.

The guys in my high school were getting made fun of if they were virgins by the time they were 16. I think its just becoming normal now.

I went on birth control when I was 14 but wasn't having sex. I went on it to help with my acne. And it cleared it up totally. Plus it help younger girls have regular periods.

I started it when I was 14. not for the controlling birth part (wasn't having sex at 14) but I started my period when I was 11 and suffered horrible cramps and birth control helps so much. I don't think I've had a cramp since. It is gross though because although I'm only 18 and am considered this generation...i hear about middle school kids 11 or 12 starting to have sex. CRAZY. try some masturbation first.. :D.
